How Horse Creek Stable Bed and Breakfast Began

The logo of our home page is an actual horse on our farm.  Meet Haggis Hanover; sired by “The Panderosa”

Haggis Hanover

Haggis is a pure breed Standardbred from the world famous Hanover Shoe Farms in Pennsylvania, world renown for breeding the best race horses.

Haggis in his prime

Haggis won at the track but when horses are past their prime, and partnerships divide, horses move on. Haggis went from one owner to another until he ended up in the worst possible situation, discarded and left to starve. All too common a tale.

Haggis before rescue

Enter Hope Equine Rescue in Auburndale Florida who took in Haggis and put him on the road to recovery.

One visit to Hope Equine Rescue and it was love at first sight for us.  That was the day the Lord, working through Haggis, changed the direction of our lives.  We adopted Haggis and he became the first horse we owned.  His original owners, who raced Haggis, are great people who were a wealth of information and to this day send us supplies for him. They’ve created a great new line of topical horse products “Hay, Where’s That Blue Stuff

As you can see below, Haggis bounced back thanks to lots of tender loving care. Note also that Haggis has a black mane and tail, four white socks and white mark on his forehead, just like Joey in the book “War Horse.”

Haggis after being rescued

Everyone who owns horses know that horses are like potato chips, you can’t have just one.  When we retired and moved to Georgia our new neighbor asked us to let one of his colts graze in an extra pasture.  Enter Atlas, who we fell in love with and adopted shortly thereafter.

. . . deserves another!

One good kiss . . .
